self portrait: a sliver of hope

Throughout this project, I have approached the reasons why people today are so separated from reality and the natural world, and the repercussions being that they are not enabled to care about helping it. Evaluated in the context of today’s society, this portion of Bosch’s painting encapsulates the “solution” to this problem: experiences. As the people in the painting gather together and interact with each other, and nature itself (the bird), they offer a window into the value in getting back in touch with nature and grounding oneself in reality. By incorporating a self portrait of a younger me in this excerpt, I represent that there is hope for future generations to live their lives with a lens that depicts reality, and the first step to achieve this is to go out and experience. We must interact with nature and people, gain new perspectives from listening to stories– conceptualize and craft your place in the world by experiencing the real thing.
